Empower Your Day: Mastering Time Management with Time Blocking

Got big goals to achieve in 2025? Do you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done? You’re not alone! Time blocking is a proven method to take control of your schedule and maximize your productivity. By assigning specific tasks to dedicated time slots, you’ll create a clear roadmap for your day and make room for both your priorities and your personal life.

What Is Time Blocking? Time blocking is a scheduling technique that involves dividing your day into blocks of time, with each block dedicated to a specific task or type of task. Instead of reacting to tasks as they come up, you proactively plan your day.

My Journey with Time Blocking: As someone who wears many hats—sports mom, wife, and business owner of multiple businesses—I understand how easy it is to get lost in the never-ending task list that life throws our way. My days were often filled with interruptions, leaving me feeling like I had accomplished nothing by the end of it. Sound familiar?

I’ve trialed and errored countless productivity methods over the years. Time blocking was a game-changer. Not only does it help me stay on top of my responsibilities, but it’s also a technique I’ve shared with my teams and mentees, who have seen incredible results.

Deep work is productive work, and time blocking creates the space to focus and thrive.

How to Start Time Blocking:

  1. Identify Your Priorities: Write down your most important tasks for the day or week.

  2. Group Similar Tasks: Combine related tasks into categories, like meetings, creative work, or administrative duties.

  3. Allocate Time Blocks: Assign time slots for each task or category. Be realistic about how much time each will take.

(Pro Tip: Measure what you scheduled against what you actually did, and adjust each week as you see patterns develop. EG maybe you do your best work at 5-8am like me!)

  4. Leave Buffer Time: Include time for unexpected tasks or breaks to maintain flexibility.

(This is one of the most important steps and is usually overlooked! It is human nature to allocate less time than is needed to complete a task. Include buffer time, and be gentle with yourself as you get the hang of this!)

The Benefits of Time Blocking

  • Focus: Helps you stay on task without distractions.

  • Productivity: Ensures important tasks get completed.

  • Work-Life Balance: Makes space for self-care and personal time.

Closing Thoughts

Time blocking transforms your daily chaos into a structured, manageable plan. Start small, adjust as needed, and watch how your productivity and peace of mind soar. This method works not only for me but for so many people I’ve guided on this journey. Ready to give it a try?
